my assignment

To 2009: Be Fearless!
Dear Fearless Friends,

Let's just be done with it: 2008. It's best to label it for what is was and move on. Perhaps you had the best year of your life while others would call 2008 the year from beyond, or 'it sucked' year. Whatever it was for you, I have three assignments for you to complete before this year is up, so we can enter 2009 clear and fresh and true.

Assignment one:

Please list 100 gratitudes for 2008. I don't care that you can't recall one happy moment or that you think 20 will be it tops. One hundred it must be.
One hundred moments that someone or something was in your life that made you smile, made your life easier, put a spring in your step. Some moment that worked. Maybe the security line at the airport was much easier than you anticipated. Be grateful. Or perhaps the dinner with your mom's new boyfriend wasn't horrible. Be grateful. Or your best friend forgot your birthday but she made up for it days later. Be grateful.

Gratitude must become a habit if true happiness, compassion, and peace of mind are your goals.

Assignment two:

Please list 100 acknowledgements for yourself and your deeds for 2008. That means any change, any shift, any new way of handling a situation that occurred in 2008 that took some effort, will, or composure.

Perhaps you get frustrated with your brother every holiday season because you always have to bring up the question of what to get your mother. Acknowledge yourself if you took a breath sooner than later or you were able to ask him without a hint of irritation in your voice. You tried to be more loving, more patient, better. Acknowledge yourself. If your boss handed out no raise, no bonus, zilch this holiday season. Acknowledge yourself if instead of silently seething, you asked your boss what was up or if you stopped yourself from acting like a spoiled school boy and instead, had the courage to make an appointment to talk about it.

Acknowledgement must become a habit if you desire more confidence, more self-worth, and more you to show up.

Assignment three:

Please write one intention statement for 2009. What is your intention this year? Will you practice being more loving? Healthier? Forgiving? Will you practice saying no or breathing ten times when you are frustrated, angry, in fear? Will you let go and forgive with more ease or give yourself a break by giving up that old tired habit of perfectionism?

Write an intention statement with the attitude of practice. What must you acquire in your beingness to own your greatness? What is holding you back from being true to yourself?

Name it and then write an intention to start practicing being more of who you are by practicing this new skill.

The three assignments will get you ready to enter this new year with less fear, more hope, and more you. Your willingness to do the work proves your devotion to yourself. Your completion of the work gives you a path and a firmer foundation in which to walk into the unknown called 2009.

May you find more peace in your heart, home and head in 2009. May we become more fearless together. May the world know the truth.

To 2009. Be Fearless!

Sending Fearless Love,
Rhonda

a blast from ShovelFest past

Received an e-mail from Wood. We met in Memphis and then spent the night at SyndiKat's on our way to ShovelFest along with Mr. C from the ShovelHead.Us forum. What a wonderful time we had riding together up to Eldred!

The pic below was taken with Wood's camera by a cop who stopped by the side of the road to see what was up with us and if we were ok. Wood's ride needed some TLC and adjustments. We originally asked the policeman to get in the pic with us but he declined. He did take ours with his lights on his car flashing behind. What a trip down memory lane.

Thanks Bill, your e-mail was a real treat. And yes, you did bring a smile to my face... much appreciated! It was a honor riding with all of you. I will never forget that trip.

Pampered Paws in Crosby

Just wanted to say "thank you so very much!" to Eileen who owns Pampered Paws. She loves all animals as if they were her own children. She took in Samantha and Faith, pampered and 'dressed' them, loved them like no other has done before for a day trip to the 'groomers' and sent them home with treats. I highly recommend her and Pampered Paws services!

You are a very special person, Eileen, with wonderful gifts. Thank you for sharing them with the rest of us. Sam and Faith say 'thank you!' too. They adore you... :)

it's Christmas time!

Snowed four inches in Houston last night and this morning. The last time it snowed was Christmas Eve 2004 ~ the year I moved home. I remember it well...

Today the freeways are shut down. The big bridges are closed. Ice has caused numerous accidents. Everyone is being told to stay home. Once the sun is out for awhile, the ice will melt. By 9-10am the news is reporting. Yesterday morning I knew it was going to snow. I often time know things before they happen. When I took the dogs out in the morning yesterday, I looked up at the sky and simply knew. Snow was on the way.

I do agree with my daughter Bethany... it is nice to have snow at Christmas-time!
It's a beautiful morning...

Digital TV Transition & TV Converter Box Coupon Program

At Midnight ET on February 17, 2009, all full-power TV stations in the United States will stop broadcasting in analog and switch to 100% digital broadcasting. After the switch, analog TV sets receiving free channels using an antenna will only be able to pick up local, low-powered stations — those not required by the FCC to transition to a digital signal. So, if you own a TV set that only has an analog tuner and you’re not connected to cable, satellite, or another pay TV service, you’ll need to take action before February 17, 2009, to ensure your TV set continues to receive network programming.

You have a variety of options:

  • Keep your existing analog TV and purchase a converter box
  • Connect to cable, satellite, or another pay service
  • Purchase a newer TV with a digital tuner

Congress created the Digital TV Transition and TV Converter Box Coupon Program for people who want to keep using their analog TV sets after February 17, 2009. The program allows eligible U.S. households to get up to two coupons, each worth $40, which they can apply toward the cost of qualified converter boxes.

To apply for your coupons, you can call 1-888-388-2009 (TTY number is 1-877-530-2634) or go online at www.dtv2009.gov. Please note that coupons are not available to households with cable TV service and other government restrictions may also apply. If you’re eligible, you’ll receive the coupon(s) in the mail (they’ll look similar to a credit card). You’ll then have 90 days from the postmark of the mailing to redeem the coupon(s).
