"Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned."
~Siddhartha Buddha
My very good friend Larry told me this almost two years ago. He spoke of things and people and situations that had happened in his life. He said if there was any anger within me to release it. I would be the one holding the hot coal and getting burned. So I did. I dropped my hot coals that I had held near and dear to my core.
That action set me free.
It is so sad to hear of people who have been friends turning a disagreement into a rift so wide that they cannot ever recover their friendship. Today I pray for healing of relationships. I hope for those who have taken up the coal of anger to release it to the earth. Those that have begun reacting to each other negatively where there used to be positives to see that "it's all small stuff" and our differences are what makes our lives richer and fuller and more exciting. That even in being true to our own cores, we can still be friends with those who are different and staying true to theirs.
Today I pray for peace. Not world peace. Simply peace within the friendships of any and all of those who have known each other for years and are good, loving, caring individuals who simply disagreed. May peace find you and the hurt and anger disappear.
Life's too short... drop the coal so that your burns can heal.
Learn that a good friend is worth more than being right.
Live, laugh, love always...
