In lieu of gifts...

The decision was made and date set just hours ago and already numerous requests are coming in with the question: "What do you need?"

I thought long and hard about this question. This will be my first ever Housewarming party. What did I need? Nothing really. Simply my friends and family to attend!

So I have updated the Event in Facebook with the following message. Please support our local Red Cross with a donation in honor of whatever you choose... whether it be my rebuild, or someone else's or simply to honor what the Red Cross did for us in Galveston since September 12th, 2008 when Hurricane Ike came ashore.

Thank you... with all my heart. This is my request regarding gifts.

---------------------------------------

Celebration of finally finding a home after Hurricane Ike. I'm no longer homeless! This is the start of *my* own personal rebuild after losing everything. This is a private, by invitation only event. You are receiving this invite if you are one of my Facebook Friends/other friends and/or family.

RSVP and I'll fill you in on the details via e-mail. Hope to see you there... :)

Many of you know how much the Red Cross helped during the clean up of Ike. They came through my neighborhood day after day delivering food and water while I worked on getting my home cleaned out. They did that for hundreds others also. To read in greater detail, click here:

Now they need help. Their funds are depleted due to numerous disasters. In lieu of gifts, please donate to the American Red Cross. If you want your gift to go directly to the Galveston area, please call them if you are not from this area at 1-800-REDCROSS.

All others, there is a "Your Local Red Cross Chapter" option at the bottom of the donation list here:

Other ways to donate to this excellent cause are listed here:

And last but not least, consider supporting them by joining a Facebook Group like the one below. Awareness is everything!

I'm Ready to Help - Make every instant message count for the American Red Cross with Windows Live Messenger

Whenever a life is turned upside down by disaster, the American Red Cross is ready. Ready with a safe place to sleep. Ready with a hot meal. Ready to help people get back on their feet.

For 125 years the Red Cross has been responding to disasters across America. In fact, each year in communities large and small, victims of some 70,000 emergencies of every size turn to the Red Cross for help.

The i’m™ Initiative is a new program that enables you to help the Red Cross assist people in need through Windows Live™ Messenger.

Every time you have an instant message conversation using i’m, Microsoft shares a portion of the program’s advertising revenue with the Red Cross. With no set cap on the amount donated, the more i’m conversations you have, the more money goes to help the Red Cross respond to disasters of every size and scope through its Disaster Relief Fund.

There is no fee for joining or using the program; you simply select the Red Cross as your charitable organization when you join. It takes just a few minutes to join, so you’ll start making a difference with your next i’m conversation through Windows Live Messenger, without spending a dime.

The Red Cross is not a government agency—we rely on donations, your donations, to do our work, and an average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs that make a real difference in the lives of millions of people.
